Mykhaylo Alekseenko

In 2013 graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, an easel graphics faculty.
Works with various media. In his artistic practice pays great attention to the aesthetics of interaction, works with themes of myth and reality, studies the influences of the past in the post-Soviet space. He is a co-founder of the group “YOD” (2013) and the art squat “Hyatt” (2011). In 2016, he organized an independent art space “Apartment 14” in Troeschina.

“After the death of my grandmother, there was a lot of crystal left. She collected and carefully preserved it, like many "post-Soviet" citizens. Using crystal for its intended purpose in the family was prohibited. Grandma kept it for a special occasion. Which never happened. Grandma has long been gone, but the dream remained. But the image of my grandmother for this project is just a starting point, because collecting crystal and not using it, keeping it in sideboards like museum exhibits, has become a characteristic of the times. Strangely enough, the module of Soviet architecture, especially Stalinist Empire style, coincides with the module in utility items. The silhouette of objects made of crystal resembles the spires of buildings and domes of Orthodox churches. Like a spire that rises high against the backdrop of the sky, crystal in the sideboard is just as unattainable, although it seemed to always be nearby. The Soviet ideology of building a better life, the rapid movement upwards, the grandeur found its reflection in the everyday life of ordinary people. And their fragile dream left a shadow - a sense of transience and instability of everything that exists.”
