Concept

The main task is to draw the attention of the Ukrainian and world community to the fate of the civilians of Donbass, whose lives have been forever changed by the armed conflict. Mariupol was one of the first to bear the brunt. This city by the sea not only became a key point on the aid map of the Humanitarian Headquarters of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation but also a refuge and a new home for many Donbass civilians. In fact, it has become a bridge between the past and the present. The key element of the composition is a kind of door or portal. They symbolize the boundary that divided the fates of the people of the whole region into "before" and "after". The installation is a symbolic transition from one period of life to another. We invite everyone to pass through it and, perhaps, to feel something important for themselves. And also to remember, to comprehend the events that took place. In addition, this installation is about the importance of communicating with each other, about how our stories change the course of life for an entire country. According to the author of the work, Vitalii Kokhan, it is a symbol of the return home of people who were forced to leave their native land due to the armed conflict. Roses, a symbol of the city of Donetsk, are planted around the installation. The composition is equipped with an audio system, thanks to which everyone can hear the stories of the inhabitants of Donbass, collected in the "Museum of Civilian Voices".
